Wagon Train
Ever wondered why your parents would yell "Wagons Ho!" when setting out on a car trip? Blame this show.

As the wave of westerns crested over the latter part of the decade, Wagon Train really found its audience, though it wouldn't reach #1 until the 1960s. The show was based on the 1950 film Wagon Master and chronicles the adventures of a wagon train as it makes its way from Missouri to California <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California>. And much pioneerin' and fightin' for justice and life-lesson learnin' ensued.

One more fun side note: When pitching Star Trek to network TV executives in the 60s, Gene Roddenberry referred to his outer-space series as "a Wagon Train to the stars."
