1970s

The 1970′s took television to a new level of social, issue oriented series.  With the tumultuous 60′s race riots behind us it was time to open the doors for an african-american audience to have shows they could identify with.  Producer Norman Lear made sure the 70′s would do just that with the likes of The Jefferson’s and Good Times. Also, the topics were becoming edgy and confronted issues that were taboo in decades before.  On Good Times the issue of sexual molestation was addressed….All In The Family addressed everyting from bigotry and racism to rape and the Vietnam War.  America found itself performing a self-evaluation through the medium of television.  Cheesy variety shows kept us on the lighter side as the drama’s took on more and more challenging topics.
