And you thought the freak show that is the auditioning process for American Idol is a recent phenomenon. Well move over J-Lo, Arthur Godfrey is the original author of instant fame. But think more Sinatra and less Sanjaya. Ok, so Old Blue Eyes was never on the show. But scouted talent that did make an appearance includes Tony Bennet, Rosemary Clooney, Pat Boone and Lenny Bruce, just to name a few.
But just like modern televised talent competitions, not everyone can be a winner. Two people who didn’t make the cut – Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley
